Patchwork Placemat Sewing Kit – Set of 2 – Take & Make

Bring a handmade touch to your table. Create a coordinating pair of patchwork placemats while exploring quilting on a manageable scale. Enjoy them at home or give the pair as a thoughtful handmade gift.

What's included

• Four fat quarters in four coordinating fabrics for the patchwork fronts of both placemats
• ⅔ yard of backing fabric
• Cotton batting for the center of both placemats
• Printed project instructions with cutting and sewing directions

This kit makes two placemats, each approximately 12″ × 18″ when finished. Fabric is supplied as fat quarters and yardage, not precut project pieces. You'll cut your pieces using the included directions.

Four fabrics, a patchwork design

Arrange different-sized rectangular pieces from four coordinating fabrics into a patchwork design. The pieces join directly together, with no sashing strips between them.

A simple finish without separate binding

Stitch the patchwork front to the cotton batting, then attach the backing, leaving an opening for turning. Turn the placemat right side out, press, and topstitch around the edge to finish and close the opening. No separate binding is needed.

Practice measuring and cutting, arranging patchwork fabrics, stitching to batting, adding a backing, turning, and topstitching.

Thread and tools to have ready

Thread is not included. All-purpose sewing thread is recommended.

You'll need a sewing machine, fabric scissors, pins or clips, a ruler or measuring tool, a fabric-marking tool, and an iron with a pressing surface. A rotary cutter and cutting mat are optional alternatives to fabric scissors.

This is a sewing project kit to make two placemats, not a pair of finished placemats.
